The Truth About Fluoride

Did you know 👉 that community water fluoridation, initiated in the 1940s to combat tooth decay, has expanded fluoride exposure through various sources? Fluoride is now present in water, food, air, soil, pesticides, dental products, pharmaceuticals, and even cookware.

The fluoride used in U.S. drinking water, including Fluorosilicic Acid, is an untreated industrial waste product containing traces of arsenic and lead from phosphate fertilizer production. Without this waste, fluoridation would be costly, and without fluoridation, the phosphate industry would face disposal challenges.

Contrary to pharmaceutical-grade fluoride in toothpaste, water fluoride is industrial-grade. While the CDC and US Public Health Service consider 2 mg fluoride/L water safe, emerging evidence suggests even low levels can affect the body.

Recently, a study published in JAMA Network Open from USC’s Keck School of Medicine evaluated 229 pregnant women and children. Results indicated that increased maternal fluoride exposure during pregnancy correlated with heightened neurobehavioral problems in children, especially internalizing issues like anxiety and depression.

Tracy Bastain, senior author of the study, emphasized the public health concern, noting the prevalence of fluoridated water in U.S. communities. These findings prompt a reevaluation of prenatal fluoride exposure recommendations.
